Today is July 15, 2026, and if you’ve been feeling a pull to retreat, reflect, or perhaps shed a few tears for no apparent reason, you are right on time. We are currently sitting in the heart of a potent lunar cycle, the New Moon in Cancer, while Mercury dances backward through that same watery terrain.

In my work with Psychoastrology®, I look at these celestial moments not as "bad luck" or "chaos," but as divine appointments for healing. This specific alignment is what I call an Emotional Reset. It’s an invitation to return to your "inner home", that place within yourself where you feel safe, nurtured, and truly seen.

Let’s dive into what this means for your mental health and how you can navigate this energy with compassion and grace.

The Retrograde Review: Looking Back to Move Forward

Mercury has been retrograde in Cancer since late June and will remain so until July 23. In the sign of the Crab, Mercury isn't just about "glitches" or "delayed emails." It’s about the stories we tell ourselves about our past.

Cancer rules our roots, our family history, and our sense of belonging. When Mercury moves backward here, old memories may surface. You might find yourself thinking about a childhood home, a conversation with a parent from years ago, or a recurring emotional pattern that you thought you’d outgrown.

Instead of fighting the "re-visiting" of these memories, I encourage you to see them as data. This is a time for emotional processing. We cannot build a sturdy new "outer home" (our careers, relationships, or goals) if the foundation of our "inner home" is still shaky from old wounds.

The New Moon: A Seed of Tenderness

Yesterday’s New Moon at 21° Cancer occurred right alongside this retrograde Mercury. Usually, a New Moon is a time to "manifest" and "do." But with Mercury retrograde, this New Moon is different. It’s a seed of tenderness.

The intention you set today shouldn't be about achievement; it should be about care. It’s a permission slip to begin again from a place of softness. If you’ve been hard on yourself lately, this is your cosmic green light to stop the self-criticism and start the self-nurturing.

The Barbault Basket: You Are Not Alone in This

While your experience feels deeply personal, there is a larger "Barbault Basket" alignment happening in the background. With Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter all sitting at 4° in their respective signs, the collective world is also in a state of reorientation.

This tells us that your personal healing, the work you do to stabilize your own emotions, is part of a much larger global shift. When you heal your inner home, you contribute to a more stable, compassionate world. Your individual peace is a revolutionary act.

Your Psychoastrology® Action Plan: 3 Steps to Healing

To help you ground this ethereal energy into practical transformation, I’ve designed three Psychoastrology®-inspired practices for this week.

1. Identify the Core Wound

In my book, The Chiron Effect: Healing Our Core Wounds through Astrology, Empathy, and Self-Forgiveness, I discuss how our "Chiron" placement reveals where we feel most vulnerable. During a Cancer New Moon, the "Wound of Belonging" or the "Wound of Worthiness" often gets activated.

The Practice: Ask yourself, "What is the oldest story I believe about my worth?" Is it that you aren't 'enough'? That you have to 'earn' love? That you aren't safe? Simply naming the wound takes its power away. Recognize that these feelings are often echoes from the past, amplified by the current retrograde, and not the truth of your present.

2. Reparenting Your Inner Dialogue

Since Cancer is the sign of the archetypal Mother, this is the perfect time to practice Reparenting. Mercury Retrograde gives us a "second chance" to talk to our inner child.

The Practice: When you feel a surge of anxiety or sadness this week, don't try to "fix" it. Instead, speak to yourself as you would to a small, tired child.

  • Old dialogue: "Why am I so emotional? I need to get it together."
  • Reparented dialogue: "I see that you’re feeling overwhelmed right now. It’s okay to be sad. We are safe, and I am here with you."

This shift in internal tone is the essence of compassionate therapy and is a core part of how I work with my clients.

3. A Tiny Ritual of Emotional Hygiene

Cancer is a water sign. Water represents our emotions, our intuition, and our ability to flow. During this period of "emotional reset," a physical ritual can help clear the "stagnant water" of the past.

The Practice: Create a simple "Water Clearing."

  • Fill a bowl with cool water.
  • Hold your hands over it and think of one emotional burden you are ready to release (e.g., "I release the need to please everyone").
  • Gently splash your face or wrists with the water, or simply pour the water into the earth (or a plant) as a symbol of returning that energy to the ground.

This simple act of "Emotional Hygiene" tells your subconscious that you are clearing space for new, healthier patterns.

Moving Forward with Compassion

As Mercury prepares to station direct on July 23, the fog will begin to lift. But don't rush the process. The insights you gain now, while the world feels a bit quiet and your heart feels a bit loud, are the most valuable ones.

If you find that this "Emotional Reset" is bringing up more than you can handle on your own, please know that support is available. I offer virtual therapy sessions via Zoom and FaceTime to help you navigate these transitions. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, relationship issues, or a desire for deeper personal transformation, we can work together to blend psychology and spirituality into a path that feels right for you.

You don't have to navigate the stars: or your emotions: alone. You are your own best "inner home," and it is a beautiful place to be.
