Have you ever felt like you’re running in circles? Maybe you keep dating the same type of person who isn’t quite right for you, or you find yourself hitting the same "glass ceiling" in your career. You’ve tried traditional talk therapy, you’ve read the self-help books, and you might even check your horoscope every morning. But something is still missing.
That missing piece is often the bridge between your psychological patterns and your spiritual blueprint.
Welcome to the world of Psychoastrology®.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and psychotherapist, I’ve spent years helping people navigate the complexities of their minds. But I discovered that when we combine the clinical depth of Western psychology with the ancient wisdom of astrology, we unlock a map of the human experience that is far more detailed and transformative than either could provide alone.
In this guide, I’m going to walk you through the basics of Psychoastrology®, show you how to identify your "core wounds," and give you the tools to start mastering your inner growth today.
What is Psychoastrology®?
At its heart, Psychoastrology® is an integrative healing method. It uses your astrological birth chart: the exact "snapshot" of the sky at the moment you were born: as a diagnostic tool to pinpoint where you are most vulnerable and where your deepest strengths lie.
Think of it this way: Psychology gives us the framework for changing our beliefs and habits. It explains the "why" behind our behaviors. Astrology, on the other hand, provides the "what" and "where." It highlights the specific areas of life: relationships, career, self-worth: where our psychological hurdles are most likely to manifest.
By blending these two, we move away from generic self-help and toward a highly personalized roadmap for healing. We aren't just looking at what’s "wrong"; we are looking at how you are uniquely designed to grow.
The Natal Chart as Your Personal Blueprint

Most people know their "Sun Sign": you might be a fiery Aries or a grounded Taurus. But your birth chart is so much more than just your Sun sign. It is a complex web of planets, houses, and aspects that describe your personality, your challenges, and your destiny.
In Psychoastrology®, we view the birth chart as a blueprint of the psyche. Every planet represents a different part of you:
- The Sun: Your core identity and ego.
- The Moon: Your emotional world and what you need to feel safe.
- Mercury: How you communicate and process information.
- Venus: How you love and what you value.
- Mars: Your drive, energy, and how you take action.
But there is one placement that I believe is the most important for anyone seeking deep, personal transformation: Chiron.
Meeting Your Wounded Healer: The Chiron Effect
In Greek mythology, Chiron was a centaur known as a great healer, teacher, and philosopher. Ironically, he suffered from a wound that he could not heal himself. In astrology, Chiron is a minor planetary body known as the "Wounded Healer."
Your Chiron placement (found by the sign and house it was in when you were born) reveals your deepest core wound. This isn't just a minor "ouch"; it’s the area of life where you feel most inadequate, unseen, or "not enough."
I call this "The Chiron Effect." It is the orbit of people, places, and situations that we keep circling because they trigger that original wound. For some, the wound is about feeling unimportant. For others, it’s a fear of abandonment or a struggle with self-worth.
The magic of Chiron is that once you identify and work through this wound, it becomes your greatest source of wisdom and strength. You become the "healer" for others in the very area where you were once most hurt. You can dive deeper into this concept in my book, The Chiron Effect: Healing Our Core Wounds through Astrology, Empathy, and Self-Forgiveness.
How to Identify Your Core Wounds
Identifying your core wound isn't about wallowing in past trauma; it’s about awareness. When we know where the wound is, we can stop accidentally poking it and start tending to it with compassion.

In my practice, I’ve identified 12 main areas of core wounding based on the astrological signs. For example:
- Chiron in Aries: Wounds centered on identity and the right to exist.
- Chiron in Taurus: Wounds centered on neglected physical needs and self-worth.
- Chiron in Gemini: Wounds centered on communication and feeling "unheard."
- Chiron in Cancer: Wounds centered on family, belonging, and emotional safety.
When you recognize these patterns, you can begin to see how they’ve influenced your choices. Are you staying in a job that doesn't value you because of a Taurus wound? Are you over-explaining yourself because of a Gemini wound? Awareness is the first step toward freedom.
Practical Steps for Your Journey
You don't need to be a professional astrologer or a psychologist to start using Psychoastrology® for your own growth. Here is a simple three-step process to get you started.
Step 1: Chart Your Course
The first step is to find out where Chiron is in your chart. There are many free resources online where you can enter your birth date, time, and location to generate a free natal chart. Look for the symbol that looks like a key (that’s Chiron!). Once you know your sign and house, you can start researching what that means for you.
Step 2: Practice Self-Empathy
Once you identify your core wound, your first instinct might be to judge it. "Why am I still struggling with this?" or "I should be over this by now."
This is where the psychology piece comes in. Instead of judgment, we apply self-empathy. When that old feeling of "not being enough" crops up, acknowledge it. Say to yourself, "I see you, little wound. I know why you’re here, and it’s okay to feel this way."
Step 3: Embrace Self-Forgiveness
In my book and my sessions, I emphasize a structured process of self-forgiveness. This involves looking back at the moments your wound was formed: often in childhood: and forgiving yourself for the beliefs you adopted back then to survive. You weren't "broken"; you were just doing your best with the tools you had.

Setting aside 15–20 minutes a day for journaling can be incredibly powerful. Ask yourself:
- What is the story I tell myself when I feel hurt?
- Is that story actually true, or is it just the "Chiron Effect" talking?
- What would it feel like to release that story today?
Finding Balance: Integrating the Stars with Daily Life
The ultimate goal of Psychoastrology® isn't just to understand your chart; it’s to live a better, more balanced life. Whether you’re looking to improve your work/life balance, heal your relationships, or simply feel more at peace in your own skin, this work provides the foundation.

When we understand our cosmic blueprint, we stop fighting against our nature and start flowing with it. We recognize that our challenges aren't obstacles to our growth: they are the path to our growth.
