If you’ve spent any time in therapy, you’ve likely explored the "why" behind your current struggles. Maybe you’ve realized that your tendency to people-please comes from a childhood where your needs were secondary, or your fear of abandonment stems from an early loss. Traditional psychotherapy is incredible for uncovering these patterns, but sometimes, it feels like there’s a missing piece, a map that shows not just where it hurts, but why that specific wound keeps repeating in your life like a broken record.

This is where Psychoastrology® comes in.

As a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience, I’ve found that blending the clinical precision of psychology with the ancient wisdom of astrology provides a powerful, multi-dimensional approach to healing. In my book, The Chiron Effect, I explore how the placement of the asteroid Chiron in your birth chart acts as a "diagnostic tool" for your deepest core wounds, those tender spots often rooted in childhood that continue to shape your adult reality.

So, can Psychoastrology® really help you heal childhood trauma? The answer is a resounding yes, and here is how it works.

What is Psychoastrology®, Anyway?

The term "Psychoastrology®" might sound a bit "out there" if you’re used to strictly clinical environments. However, think of it as a bridge. Psychology gives us the language for our behavior, defenses, and emotions. Astrology: specifically the study of Chiron: gives us a symbolic blueprint of our soul’s journey.

When we combine them, we aren't just looking at personality traits like "I’m a stubborn Taurus" or "I’m a sensitive Pisces." Instead, we are looking at the unconscious patterns that drive your life. We use your natal chart to identify the "raw nerve" in your psyche. This allows us to get to the root of childhood trauma faster and with more clarity than talk therapy alone often provides.

The Role of Chiron: The Wounded Healer

In Greek mythology, Chiron was a centaur known as a great healer, teacher, and philosopher. Ironically, he suffered from a wound that he could not heal himself. In astrology, Chiron represents our "core wound": the place where we feel most vulnerable, rejected, or "not enough."

For most of us, this wound is forged in our earliest years. Whether it was a parent who was emotionally unavailable, a childhood move that left you feeling like an outsider, or a specific event of neglect, these experiences create a "frequency" that we carry into adulthood.

The "Orbit" of Trauma

I often talk about The Chiron Effect as an "orbit." Imagine your core wound is a planet, and your life: your relationships, your career choices, your health habits: is a moon orbiting that planet. If your core wound is rooted in a feeling of unworthiness (often seen with Chiron in Leo or the 5th House), you might find yourself unconsciously orbiting partners who don't value you or jobs where you feel invisible.

You aren't doing this on purpose. You are simply living at the frequency of that old childhood trauma. Psychoastrology® helps you see the orbit so you can finally choose to change your trajectory.

How It Specifically Addresses Childhood Trauma

Childhood trauma is rarely just about the event itself; it’s about the meaning we assigned to it as children. A child who is neglected doesn't think, "My parent is struggling with their own issues." They think, "I am not important." That belief becomes a foundational brick in their identity.

Here is how Psychoastrology® helps dismantle those old bricks:

1. Identifying the Theme of the Wound

By looking at where Chiron sits in your chart, we can often identify the theme of your childhood trauma before you even say a word. For example:

  • Chiron in Aries: Wounds related to the right to exist or take up space.
  • Chiron in Taurus: Wounds related to neglect or a lack of physical/emotional security.
  • Chiron in Gemini: Wounds related to being misunderstood or "not smart enough."

Knowing the theme gives us a focused starting point. It validates your experience by showing that your pain isn't "all in your head": it’s a part of your blueprint that is waiting to be integrated.

2. Moving from Victim to Observer

When we look at our trauma through the lens of Psychoastrology®, it adds a layer of healthy detachment. Instead of being "the person who was always rejected," you become "a person working through a Chiron in Libra wound." This shift in perspective is subtle but life-changing. It allows you to observe your patterns with curiosity rather than shame.

3. Empathy and Self-Forgiveness

The two pillars of my work are empathy and self-forgiveness. Many people who experienced childhood trauma carry an immense amount of "survivor guilt" or self-blame. They blame themselves for the coping mechanisms they developed: like numbing out, perfectionism, or lashing out.

In my sessions, we use the insights from your chart to cultivate empathy for that younger version of you. We realize that your "defenses" were actually brilliant survival strategies. Once you forgive yourself for needing those defenses, you can finally let them go.

The Healing Process: Shifting Your Frequency

Healing isn't just about understanding the past; it’s about changing the present. In Psychoastrology®, we don't just stay in the "wound." We move toward the "healer."

Reiki-Infused Affirmations

I believe that healing needs to happen on an energetic level as well as a psychological one. For each Chiron placement, I’ve developed specific, Reiki-infused affirmations. These aren't your standard "I am happy" quotes. They are targeted phrases designed to speak directly to that raw nerve in your psyche, helping to "rewire" the internal dialogue that trauma left behind.

Changing the Meaning

We cannot change what happened to us when we were five, ten, or fifteen years old. But we can change the story we tell ourselves about it today. By integrating the principles of The Chiron Effect, we reframe the trauma. Your greatest wound eventually becomes your greatest strength: your "superpower." The person who felt unheard as a child often becomes a powerful communicator; the person who felt neglected often becomes a deeply nurturing soul.

What to Expect in a Psychoastrology® Session

If you’re curious about how this looks in practice, a session typically blends traditional counseling techniques with an exploration of your natal chart. We might spend time talking about a current conflict in your relationship, and then look at your Chiron placement to see how an old childhood trigger is being activated in that moment.

It is a deeply personalized, intuitive, and compassionate process. Whether we connect via FaceTime, Zoom, or phone, the goal is to provide you with a safe space to explore these deep waters.

Is This Right for You?

Psychoastrology® is a beautiful fit for you if:

  • You feel like you’ve reached a plateau in traditional therapy.
  • You keep attracting the same types of toxic people or situations.
  • You are interested in spirituality but want something grounded in psychological principles.
  • You are ready to stop being a victim of your past and start being the architect of your future.

Childhood trauma can feel like a heavy weight you’re destined to carry forever. But your chart shows that there is a path through the pain. By identifying your Chiron wound, meeting it with empathy, and choosing to shift your "orbit," you can find a level of peace and self-growth you might never have thought possible.

Your trauma does not define you. It is simply the "raw material" for your transformation.

If you’re ready to discover your own Chiron Effect and start healing those core wounds, I invite you to reach out and schedule a session. Let's find your map together.
