Have you ever felt like there’s a specific area of your life where you just keep hitting a brick wall? Maybe it’s a recurring sense of not being "enough," a fear of being seen, or a persistent struggle with intimacy that seems to follow you no matter how many self-help books you read. If you’ve felt this way, I want you to know two things: you aren’t "broken," and there is a very specific map that can help you find your way out.

In my work as a therapist and through writing my book, The Chiron Effect, I’ve discovered that these recurring "walls" are often what I call core wounds. In astrology, these wounds are represented by the minor planet Chiron, known as the "Wounded Healer." But here’s the secret: that wound isn’t just a place of pain; it’s actually the doorway to your greatest strength and a deep, unshakeable sense of self-trust.

Today, I want to walk you through the framework I’ve developed to help you identify these wounds and, more importantly, transform them into a foundation for a life you actually love living.

What is the Chiron Effect?

Before we dive into the framework, let’s talk about what we’re actually dealing with. In Greek mythology, Chiron was a centaur, a healer, teacher, and musician, who was accidentally wounded by a poisoned arrow. Because he was immortal, he couldn't die, but he also couldn't heal his own wound. This paradox turned him into the ultimate healer for others.

In your own life, the "Chiron Effect" refers to the specific area where you feel most vulnerable or "poisoned" by past experiences, often from childhood. It’s that tender spot where you feel sensitive to rejection or criticism. However, when we apply the right tools, what I call Psychoastrology, we can stop the cycle of suffering and start the process of integration.

Step 1: Identifying the Map (The Diagnostic Phase)

The first step in my framework is identifying where your Chiron sits. This isn’t just about "woo-woo" star signs; it’s about using astrology as a diagnostic tool for your psyche. By looking at the sign and house position of Chiron in your birth chart, we can pinpoint exactly where your core wound is located.

For example, if your Chiron is in Aries, your wound might revolve around your right to exist or your sense of "I am." You might struggle with feeling like you have to apologize for taking up space. If it’s in Libra, the wound might be centered on partnerships and a fear of being alone or "incomplete" without someone else.

Understanding this placement acts like a "lightbulb moment." It takes the shame out of the struggle. Instead of saying, "Why am I like this?" you can say, "Oh, this is my Chiron showing up. I see you."

Step 2: Radical Empathy and Witnessing

Once we know where the wound is, the next step isn't to "fix" it immediately. If you try to fix a wound before cleaning it, it just gets infected. In this framework, "cleaning the wound" means applying radical empathy.

Most of us are incredibly hard on ourselves. We have an inner critic that sounds like a drill sergeant. To move into self-trust, we have to swap that critic for a compassionate witness. This means acknowledging the pain without judging it. When you feel that old familiar sting of inadequacy, you stop and say, "I see that you're hurting right now. It makes sense that you feel this way given what you’ve been through."

This step is crucial because you cannot trust someone (including yourself) who is constantly criticizing you. By becoming a safe space for your own emotions, you begin to build the first bricks of real self-trust.

Step 3: The Power of Self-Forgiveness

You might be wondering, “Lisa, what do I have to forgive myself for? I didn't do anything wrong; I was the one who was hurt!”

This is a common question I get on my podcast, All Things Therapy. In the Chiron Effect framework, self-forgiveness isn't about absolving yourself of guilt for things you didn't do. It’s about releasing the "shoulds."

  • "I should have been stronger."
  • "I should have known better."
  • "I should be further along in my life by now."

These "shoulds" are weights that keep you anchored to your core wound. When we practice self-forgiveness, we are essentially saying, "I release the version of the past that I think I should have had, and I accept the reality of who I am today." This release creates the space necessary for transformation to happen.

Step 4: Rewiring through Affirmation and Reiki

The fourth step of the framework is where the "real world" changes start to happen. We’ve identified the wound, witnessed it with empathy, and cleared the path with forgiveness. Now, we have to build something new.

In The Chiron Effect, I provide specific affirmations tailored to each Chiron placement. These aren't just "feel-good" quotes; they are designed to counter the specific limiting beliefs associated with your wound.

To make these even more effective, I often incorporate Reiki healing energy. Reiki is a form of energy healing that helps clear the "static" in our emotional bodies. When you combine a powerful, targeted affirmation with the intention of energetic clearing, you start to rewire your nervous system. You move out of "fight or flight" mode and into a state of "rest and trust."

Step 5: Taking Sovereign Action

The final step in turning a core wound into self-trust is taking action from a place of sovereignty. Self-trust isn't something you just think your way into; you act your way into it.

Once you understand your wound, you can see when it’s trying to drive the car. If your wound is driving, you might say "yes" when you mean "no" to avoid rejection. If you are driving from a place of self-trust, you set the boundary anyway, knowing that your value isn't dependent on that person's approval.

Every time you act in alignment with your true self, rather than your wounded self, your self-trust grows. It’s a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets.

Why This Matters Right Now

We are living in a time of great collective transition. Many of us are feeling unanchored and uncertain. When the outside world is chaotic, the only reliable place to find peace is within. But you can't find peace in a house you don't trust.

By working through this framework, you stop being a victim of your past and start becoming the architect of your future. Your core wound stops being a "flaw" and starts being the very thing that gives you your unique perspective, your empathy for others, and your internal strength.
