We all want to feel better. We want more peace, less anxiety, and a sense that we are finally “getting it right.” But often, despite our best efforts, we find ourselves stuck in the same emotional loops. As a therapist, I see people working so hard on their mental health, yet they frequently stumble over the same hidden hurdles.
In my work at Nolatherapy, I’ve developed a unique bridge between traditional psychotherapy and the intuitive wisdom of the stars. I call it Psychoastrology®. This isn't about predicting the future; it’s about using your birth chart as a mirror to understand your psychological blueprints. It’s the framework I explore deeply in my book, The Chiron Effect: Healing Our Core Wounds through Astrology, Empathy, and Self-Forgiveness.
Today, I want to walk you through seven common mistakes that might be stalling your healing journey, and how Psychoastrology® can provide the "fix" you’ve been looking for.
1. Mistaking Your Thoughts for Absolute Facts
One of the most frequent mistakes we make is believing everything we think. We experience a "cognitive distortion", like thinking, "I’m a failure because I missed this deadline", and we treat it as an objective truth rather than a fleeting mental event.
The Psychoastrology® Lens: The Mercury Connection
In your birth chart, Mercury governs how you process information and communicate. If you have a heavy Mercury-Saturn influence, your mind might naturally default to a critical, "stern teacher" voice. If your chart has strong Gemini or Aquarius energy, your mind might move so fast that you can’t tell which thoughts are helpful and which are just noise.
The Fix
Instead of taking your thoughts at face value, look at your Mercury placement. Understand that your "inner critic" is often just a misaligned astrological energy trying to keep you safe. By practicing cognitive reframing, asking, "Is this 100% true?", and acknowledging your astrological mental style, you can create space between your identity and your thoughts.

2. Equating Intense Emotions with "The Truth"
Have you ever felt so deeply hurt or angry that you assumed the situation must be as catastrophic as your feelings suggest? While your feelings are valid, they aren't always accurate reporters of reality. This is often where we make impulsive decisions we later regret.
The Psychoastrology® Lens: The Moon and Water Signs
Your Moon sign describes your emotional landscape. If you have a Moon in a Water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces), you likely experience emotions as deep, swirling oceans. This depth is a gift, but it can also be overwhelming.
The Fix
Use "Moon checking." When a wave of emotion hits, ask yourself: What sign is the Moon in today, and where is my natal Moon? This helps you realize that your feelings are like weather, intense in the moment, but destined to change. Label the feeling ("I am experiencing a wave of Scorpio-like intensity") rather than becoming the feeling.

3. Viewing Discomfort as a Sign That You Are "Broken"
In our culture, we’re taught that we should feel "good" all the time. When we feel anxious, sad, or uncertain, we assume something is fundamentally wrong with us. We pathologize our growth.
The Psychoastrology® Lens: Saturn’s Lessons
Saturn is the planet of structure, discipline, and, yes: discomfort. In Psychoastrology®, we see Saturnian phases not as punishments, but as "resistance training" for the soul. If your chart has strong Capricorn or 10th house placements, you might be particularly hard on yourself when things feel heavy.
The Fix
Reframe discomfort as "Saturn training." Just like a muscle grows through tension, your psyche grows through the challenges of life. Instead of asking "What's wrong with me?", ask "What is this pressure trying to teach me about my resilience?" This shift from victimhood to agency is a core principle of my counseling approach.

4. Using Avoidance to "Manage" Anxiety
We all have our "escape hatches": scrolling social media, overworking, or perhaps a glass of wine to numb the day. While these offer temporary relief, they actually feed the anxiety loop because they teach your brain that you can’t handle the reality in front of you.
The Psychoastrology® Lens: The 12th House and Neptune
Neptune and the 12th House govern the subconscious and the urge to transcend reality. When misaligned, this energy manifests as "numbing out" or dissociation.
The Fix
Instead of running, create "Structured Escapism." If you have a strong Pisces influence, give yourself permission to dive into art, meditation, or music: but do it with intention. Use these tools to recharge so you can return to your life, rather than using them to disappear.
5. Believing the Myth That "Strength" Means Going It Alone
Many of my clients, especially those in high-pressure careers, believe that asking for help is a sign of weakness. They think they should be able to "snap out of it" or handle their trauma through sheer willpower.
The Psychoastrology® Lens: The Fire Signs and the Sun
A dominant Sun or strong Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) can create a persona of "the hero." You might feel like you always have to be the bright light in the room, making it terrifying to admit when you're in the dark.
The Fix
Redefine strength. In my podcast, All Things Therapy, I often discuss how the ultimate act of courage is vulnerability. True Fire-sign strength is having the bravery to seek wise counsel. Vulnerability isn't a leak in your power; it's the gateway to your healing.
6. Waiting Until a Crisis to Seek Support
Too often, people wait until their relationship is ending or they’re in the middle of a burnout crisis before they book a session. We ignore the "check engine" lights of our mental health until the car stops running entirely.
The Psychoastrology® Lens: Transits and the 6th House
The 6th House governs our daily routines and health. By watching "transits" (where the planets are moving right now in relation to your birth chart), we can see when a "stormy" emotional season is approaching.
The Fix
Treat your mental health like a preventative ritual. You don’t wait for a toothache to brush your teeth. Similarly, using virtual therapy as a regular check-in allows you to navigate life's transits with grace rather than desperation.
7. Over-Pathologizing Your Own Personality
With so much information online, it’s easy to self-diagnose every quirk as a disorder. We can become so attached to our labels that we forget our potential for transformation.
The Psychoastrology® Lens: The Map is Not the Territory
Your birth chart is a map, not a life sentence. If you have "Chiron in the 4th House," it indicates a core wound related to home and belonging: but it also points toward your greatest capacity to heal others in that same area. This is the heart of The Chiron Effect.
The Fix
Move from "I am broken" to "I am a work in progress with a specific set of tools." See your "labels" as temporary containers for understanding, but never let them define the limits of who you can become.
Taking the Next Step in Your Transformation
Healing is rarely a straight line, but it doesn't have to be a lonely journey. Whether you are navigating a career transition, healing from PTSD, or simply looking to understand your soul’s purpose, blending the practical tools of psychology with the celestial insights of Psychoastrology® can change everything.
