We all want to feel better. Whether it’s managing a busy work-life balance, navigating the ups and downs of a relationship, or simply trying to wake up feeling a bit more "centered," the quest for mental well-being is universal. But often, despite our best efforts: the meditation apps, the self-help books, the occasional yoga class: we still find ourselves feeling stuck, anxious, or just plain drained.

In my work at Nolatherapy, I’ve seen that many of us are making the same common mistakes with our mental health. We treat our minds like machines that just need a quick tune-up, rather than living, breathing ecosystems. That’s why I developed Psychoastrology®: a unique blend of traditional psychology and intuitive astrology. It’s an approach that looks at your psychological patterns through the lens of your birth chart, specifically focusing on Chiron, the "wounded healer."

By integrating these two worlds, we can move past the "band-aid" fixes and get to the root of what’s holding you back. Here are seven common mental health mistakes and how you can use Psychoastrology® to fix them.

1. Defining Yourself by Your Wounds

We all carry "wounds": experiences from our past that left us feeling rejected, unworthy, or unloved. A common mistake is letting these wounds become your entire identity. You might start saying things like, "I’m just an anxious person," or "I’ve always been the one who gets left behind."

The Psychoastrology® Fix: Locating Your Chiron

In Psychoastrology®, we look at your Chiron placement. Chiron represents the core wound you’ve carried, often since childhood. But here’s the secret: Chiron is also where your greatest strength lies. When you identify your Chiron sign and house, you stop being a victim of your pain and start becoming the healer of it.

Instead of saying "I am my wound," you learn to say, "I have a wound here, and because of it, I have developed incredible empathy and resilience." You aren't the break in the pottery; you're the gold that fills it.

2. Falling into the Trap of Spiritual Bypassing

Have you ever felt sad or angry, only to tell yourself, "I just need to stay positive" or "Everything happens for a reason"? This is called spiritual bypassing. It’s the mistake of using spiritual concepts to avoid dealing with raw, messy human emotions. It doesn't make the pain go away; it just pushes it underground where it can grow into resentment or physical stress.

The Psychoastrology® Fix: Grounding Your Spirit

True personal transformation requires walking through the forest, not flying over it. My approach to psychotherapy and counseling combines deep psychological processing with spiritual insights. We use your chart to understand why certain emotions are coming up, but then we use evidence-based tools to sit with them.

The fix is integration: acknowledging your human feelings while holding onto your spiritual truth. It’s okay to be a "spiritual being" who is having a really tough, tear-filled Tuesday.

3. Fighting the Natural Timing of Your Life

We live in a culture of "now." We want the promotion now, the healing now, and the perfect relationship now. The mistake is resisting the natural cycles of your life. Just as nature has seasons of growth and seasons of dormancy, so do we. When you try to force a "summer" energy during a "winter" phase of your life, you end up burnt out and frustrated.

The Psychoastrology® Fix: Aligning with Your Transits

Psychoastrology® helps you understand the "transits" or current movements of the planets in relation to your personal chart. Sometimes, the stars are literally asking you to slow down, reflect, and pull back. Other times, they are pushing you to take a bold leap.

By understanding your personal timing, you can stop fighting the current and start swimming with it. This is a game-changer for work/life balance.

4. Neglecting Your "Shadow Side"

We all have parts of ourselves we don’t like: anger, jealousy, greed, or insecurity. Most of us make the mistake of trying to lock these parts in a dark room and forget the key. But the "Shadow" doesn't stay locked away; it leaks out in self-sabotage, projection, and sudden outbursts.

The Psychoastrology® Fix: Illuminating the Chart

In a Psychoastrology® session, we don’t just look at the "happy" placements. We look at the challenging ones: Pluto, Saturn, and the 12th House. These areas show us where your shadow resides. By bringing compassion and awareness to these parts of yourself, they lose their power over you.

As I often discuss on my podcast, All Things Therapy, when we bring the shadow into the light, it becomes a source of creative energy rather than a source of shame.

5. Seeking All Your Answers Outside of Yourself

Whether it’s checking your horoscope every morning to see if you’ll have a "good day" or constantly asking friends for advice on what to do, the mistake is the same: you’re outsourcing your intuition. You are looking for a "guru" or a "sign" to tell you you're okay.

The Psychoastrology® Fix: Using the Chart as a Mirror, Not a Crutch

Your birth chart isn't a set of rules; it's a map of your potential. In my FaceTime and Zoom therapy sessions, I use the chart to help you reconnect with your own inner voice. The goal of Psychoastrology® is to empower you to become your own authority. The stars don't make decisions for you; they simply highlight the tools you already have in your kit.

6. Believing You Are a "Finished Product"

Many people come to therapy thinking they are "broken" and need to be "fixed" so they can finally be "done." This mistake creates a lot of unnecessary pressure. It leads to the thought that if you still feel anxious after six months of work, you’ve somehow failed.

The Psychoastrology® Fix: Embracing Evolution

The birth chart is a snapshot of the sky at the moment you were born, but it’s also a living, evolving document. As you grow, you express your placements at higher and higher levels of consciousness.

You are never "done"; you are a work in progress, a masterpiece that is constantly being refined. Shifting from a "fixing" mindset to an "evolving" mindset is one of the most compassionate things you can do for your mental health.

7. Separating Mind, Body, and Spirit

Perhaps the biggest mistake is treating mental health as something that only happens in your head. We ignore the tight feeling in our chest, the knots in our stomach, or the spiritual dryness we feel when we aren't living our purpose.

The Psychoastrology® Fix: Integrated Healing

Psychoastrology® is inherently integrative. It connects your psychological history (the Mind), your energetic blueprint (the Spirit), and how those manifest in your daily life (the Body).

When we address all three, the healing is much more profound. For example, if you're feeling physically stressed, we look at what’s happening in your chart and your life to see where the "leak" is. Healing isn't just about changing your thoughts; it's about realigning your entire being.
